George P. Skopis, M.D.

Dr. George Skopis was born and raised in Tarpon Springs, FL which is a small town on the coast 45 minutes west of Tampa. Dr. Skopis received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He earned his medical degree from the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami FL where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. Dr. Skopis also won several teaching awards as a medical student. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach where he was voted the intern of the year by his co-residents and hospital faculty. Dr. Skopis completed his ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC where he served as chief resident. During his time in residency Dr. Skopis worked with the Prevention of Blindness Society to perform free glaucoma screenings to DC residents and eye exams for children before the start of their school year.
Dr. Skopis is eager to enter the field of vitreoretinal surgery and excited to join the team at University Retina. He looks forward to delivering patient centered care and working closely with his mentors at University Retina.
Dr. Skopis enjoys watching and playing soccer. He is an avid college football fan, especially the Florida Gators. Dr. Skopis is fluent in English and Greek.
